UNICs promote UN Issues

At a brief ceremony in New Delhi, UNIC Director Shalini Dewan presented UNIC’s collection of 495 UN films in 16mm and 35 mm formats to B.S. Lalli, CEO of Prasar Bharati, the Government of India’s corporation that oversees both national radio and television. The UN films, which date back from 1945, will be digitized by Prasar Bharati and broadcast from time to time. The ceremony concluded with a screening of a 1966 film of Indian classical musician M.S. Subbulakshmi performing at the UN General Assembly.

From the UN side, the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right of freedom of opinion and expression, Ambeyi Ligabo, gave a speech and the DPI Representative and the heads of Azerbaijan country office of UNICEF and UNHCR attended the conference as observers.

UNIC New Delhi

On 26 of April 2007 in Baku, Azerbaijan, a conference on the role of the media in the development oftolerance and mutual understanding. The conference was organized together by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Over 180 delegates took part in the conference.

The Office of the UN in Baku has distributed over 100 press releases of the Department of Public Information, which announced the appointment of Mr. Sampaio as the High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations.

From the United Nations, the Special Representative on Promotion and Protection of the rights of freedom of opinion and expression, Mr. Ambeyi Libago, delivered a speech, as did the heads of offices of UNICEF and UNHCR in the country.
