UNICs promote UN Issues

World AIDS Day

 

Workplace issues on HIV/AIDS and TB and HIV/AIDS were the two cross cutting themes during the 2006 World AIDS Day commemoration for UN staff and family, supported by UNIC Pretoria. The Resident Coordinator Ms Scholastica Kimaryo, UNICEF Resident Representative Mr. Macharia Kamau and ILO Director Ms. Judica-Amri Makhetha gave keynote addresses. A UN staff member shared his experiences on HIV/AIDS support in the workplace.

UNIC Pretoria

 

On 3 December, 2005 UNIC Sana'a organized in cooperation with UNICEF a round table discussion for the media with the theme of "HIV/AIDS: Stand up to the challenge (it is everyone's responsibility)." Around 50 media representatives attended. Dr. Fawzia Gharamah, National Coordinator of AIDS Program at the Ministry of Public Health and Population, and Mr. Hussein Basalim, Deputy Minister of Information, spoke at the seminar.

UNIC Sana'a

 

   

UNIC Yaounde organized a commemoration of World AIDS Day. The event included a panel discussion, in which the UN Resident Coordinator, Mrs. De Mowbray, participated together with representatives from the WHO and UNAIDS. There was also a speech delivered by H.E. Catherine Bakang Mbock, the Minister of Women's Affairs.
