UN force commanders brief Security Council on challenges facing ‘blue helmets’

09 October 2014 – From Mali to the Golan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, United Nations peacekeeping missions are facing increasing challenges as they operate in some of the most difficult security environments around the world, senior UN military officials told the Security Council today as they weighed field strategy for the world body’s “blue helmets.”

29 September 2014 – The Philippines took the General Assembly podium today to accuse another Member State of embarking on expansionist territorial claims that violate its rights, and called on the United Nations to take speedy action to protect UN peacekeeping forces after Filipino troops were seized in the Golan Heights.


UN: detained Fijian peacekeepers in Golan released in good condition

11 September 2014 – Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed today the release of the 45 United Nations peacekeepers that had been forcibly taken on 28 August 2014 in the Golan and detained by armed elements.
