23 April 2016 – The head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) has expressed serious concern about rising political tensions in some parts of the country.
05 April 2016 – Briefing the General Assembly on recent disturbing allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse by United Nations peacekeepers, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Chef de Cabinet reaffirmed the Organization’s determination to tackle the issue head on and indicated that such violations, if verified, would trigger a decision by Mr. Ban to repatriate the units in question.
04 April 2016 – Findings of a United Nations Response Team tasked with investigating sexual abuse allegations committed by UN peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) indicate sex with minors along with paternity claims.
31 March 2016 – The Security Council today expressed regret over the limited progress in implementing national and regional commitments under the peace, security and cooperation framework for Africa's Great Lakes region, stressing that signatory States must carry out those obligations in order to achieve lasting peace.
30 March 2016 – The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for another year, warning that the humanitarian situation remains of great concern, as well as the delays in preparing for the November presidential elections.
23 March 2016 – The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is at a critical juncture, with rising political tensions ahead of elections which could lead to violence if left unaddressed, the top United Nations official in the country warned the Security Council today, while highlighting key issues for consideration as it renews the UN's mandate there.
