UN International Atomic Energy Agency
Established in 1957, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) serves as the world's foremost intergovernmental forum for scientific and technical co-operation in the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
The DPRK signed its first nuclear safeguards agreements with the IAEA in 1977. The country became party to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) in 1985, but withdrew in 2003.

The Secretary-General urges the authorities of the DPRK to abide by its obligations under international human rights law to fulfil the right to adequate food, and to urgently prioritize its resources in order to ensure food security and address the humanitarian needs of its population.
