Briefing: Restive northern Kenya sees shifting power, risks

Joining forces to speed up economic empowerment for rural women
"Inspiration" was the focus of the first two sessions of the 2013 Retreat on the Joint Programme Accelerating Progress towards the Economic Empowerment of Rural Women being held at IFAD. About 40 participants from IFAD, FAO, WFP and UN Women gathered to hear about achievements, challenges and opportunities in the seven pilot countries: Ethiopia, Liberia, Niger, Rwanda, Guatemala, Kyrgyzstan and Nepal.

UN and World Bank chiefs visit Rwanda
The UN Secretary-General and the President of the World Bank laid wreaths at a memorial site for the 1994 genocide in Rwanda as they continued their joint mission to Africa on Thursday. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Dr. Jim Yong Kim arrived in Rwanda after a visit to Goma in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

UN Secretary-General meets with secondary school students in Mozambique
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is currently on a five-country tour in Africa. Mr. Ban' first stop was Mozambique, where he visited the Sansão Muthemba Secondary School in the capital, Maputo. The Secretary-General highlighted a campaign to end violence against women, in addition to answering students' questions. Alex King is travelling with the Secretary-General and filed this report.
