UN Funds and Programmes

Specialized Agencies

The United Nations is committed to supporting the New Partnership or Africa's Development (NEPAD) as the framework for addressing poverty and underdevelopment throughout the African continent. The UN system's diverse funds, programmes, agencies and departments are actively supporting NEPAD priorities and Millennium Development goals in line with their particular areas of expertise.

The work of the Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) aims to encourage and support the various efforts of UN system organizations by promoting action, including joint initiatives, and by reporting annually to the General Assembly on UN system efforts in the Secretary-General's Report: United Nations System support for Africa's Development.

OSAA coordinates and guides the preparation of Africa-related reports and convenes an inter-departmental task force on African affairs to ensure coherence and an integrated approach in the United Nations support to Africa.

The Africa Governance Inventory (AGI) Portal

"The Africa Governance Inventory (AGI) Portal - available on UNPAN - is managed by UNDESA with the support of UNDP. The Portal is a flexible management tool assisting governments, improving management, coordination, programming and monitoring of resources allocated to governance in Africa. The initiative was developed in 1999, on the request of African governments, to respond to their need for a comprehensive database on governance programmes".
