After the World Conference on Women held in Beijing, LUNGOS held a one day symposium on "Beijing and After". Women from all over the island attended and they were informed of what transpired in Beijing and of the critical issues of concern. This resulted in a list of recommendations. One of these recommendations was taken by LUNGOS. This was the need for a family NGO to deal with family related issues, especially issues related to the prevention of family break-ups, and to teach parenting skills to young couples and re-teach the values that make a good strong family. In 1996, the Alliance de solidarité pour la femme et la famille was launched, and to date is one of the most active NGOs.
