Who is the event for ?

The participants: the Secretary-General wished to bring together Messengers of Peace and Goodwill Ambassadors who had never before gathered at the United Nations to recognize publicly their commitment and their contribution to UN goals.

The audience: the Public portions of the programme will take place in the Economic and Social Council Chamber at United Nations Headquarters, which seats some 600 people.  Diplomats, journalists, students, representatives of NGOs and others will be invited to observe, along with United Nations staff and the general public visiting Headquarters.  The mornings' programe will be covered by the United Natiosn Department of Public Information for television and radio broadcasters worldwide.  The format will be kept as spontaneous and as informal as possible to make it lively and interesting for the participants and observers alike.

People around the world:  ultimately, however, it is hoped that the event will draw attention to the role of Messengers of peace and Goodwill Ambassadors in supporting the UN's work around the globe -- to improve the lives of people everywhhere.
