What is the ODS?
The United Nations ODS is a storage and retrieval system for United Nations documents that permits high-speed transmission of such documents through telecommunications links. The System includes a total of 300,000 documents produced in New York beginning in 1993; documents produced in Geneva, as well as, all resolutions and decisions in all official languages of the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council and Trusteeship Council from 1946.
How are the documents indexed?
The indexing of documents is based on the relevant bibliographic data which appear on the first page of each parliamentary document: The symbol (s), language, UN body or subsidiary body, session or meeting, agenda item number, date, title, and personal/corporate/conference name using entries contained in the UNBIS Authority File. Documents are also indexed by subject using descriptors from the UNBIS Thesaurus.
