This manual is an update and expansion of an earlier manual for planners, practitioners, trainers and evaluators. It explores the possibility of the expansion to critical issues other than drug abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention and the prevention of juvenile delinquency.
The manual provides a review of critical social issues, such as health, education, shelter, in the Asia-Pacific region and a short introduction to participatory versus non-participatory community-based approaches. Given the significance of poverty in the Asian and Pacific region, a separate chapter provides guidance in the development and implementation of community-level poverty alleviation strategies.
Finally, an introduction to harm-reduction techniques as a new approach in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention is provided as a potential alternative to 'classical' prevention techniques.
