Ageing in a Gendered World
Women's Issues and Identities

In every region, populations are getting older. Moreover, ageing is a gendered phenomenon: women live longer, have fewer resources and they are expected to care for elderly relatives as well as young children. As the spotlight turns to ageing and related policy debates, the need for research intensifies. This publication addresses the social policy and identity issues raised by population ageing. It shows the way in which similar issues play out in different regions and different cultures, whether Japan or Canada, Peru or Turkey, the United States or countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
