This publication presents a series of essays resulting from an international conference convened in Santiago de Chile in 1999 by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the International Jacques Maritain Institute of Rome.
The studies provide a broad discussion of the issues, together with proposals for a new international financial structure; and they discuss national policies for dealing with financial turbulence and stabilizing capital flows.
The volume concludes with the views of the various social leaders on financial globalization and their message to policy-makers. Financial globalization and the emerging economies emphasizes that the financial instability is rooted in the present operation of markets, which leads to the need to examine the issue in depth, in order to urgently find better solutions for crises prevention and crises management.
