The United Nations deals with the world's major problems. That much is common knowledge. Perhaps less well known is the fact that this Organization is also part of your daily life. In fact, you probably wouln't want to live without it.
I invite you to read the stories that follow, you will discover that, at each moment of the day, you rely on United Nations programmes. Many of the men, women and children mentioned here are real people, who could be your neighbours. All illustrate accurately the direct and vital connections existing between the world Organization and your activities.
Our mission is to assist people all over the world to live better lives, in safety and dignity; sometimes, it takes massive, complex operations; sometimes, small actions. But in all cases, we are guided by the Charter of the United Nations, which begins with:
