Urban air quality is increasingly recognized as a major public health and
environmental issue in both developed and developing nations. This review
provides policy-relevant information and raises awareness of innovative
and effective local air quality management strategies which could be adapted
and adopted by a wide range of countries with cities of similar size. It

on case studies of twenty cities, each with a projected population of between
3 and 10 million by the year 2000.
