Guidelines on Environmentally Sound Development of
Coastal Tourism

Asia and the Pacific has out-performed many other regions of the world in tourism growth and development. A major underlying factor in the high tourist potential of the region is its coastal tourism assets. However, signs of adverse impacts on the coastal environment are visible. The guidelines presented in this publication, identify the cause-effect relationship between tourism and the environment and illustrate remedial and preventive measures that can be adopted to promote the environmentally sound and sustainable development of coastal tourism.
