Mineral Recovery, Recycling, Waste Prevention
and Confinement for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific Region:
Resource Assessment, Development and Management
Mineral resources development in most of the developing countries of the
region had created a strong awareness on environmental degradation. Most
countries are striving to adopt new policies, laws and regulations but lack
the desired technology, experience and expertise to effectively formulate
a national environmental policy. This study explores the resources and opportunities
which exist in the region to further exploit the use of mineral wastes through
use of new cleaner production and recovery technologies now available. It
examines the social and economic implications of mineral waste, reviews
policies and makes numerous recommendations in an effort to promote sustainable
development.
