Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrives for first day of work.

At 9:30 a.m., 2 January the 8th Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon arrived at United Nations headquarters to start his first day of work. Mr. Ban arrived and immediately went to the United Nations meditation room to pay his respects to fallen United Nations personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the Organization's 61-year history. Afterwards, Mr. Ban will address the staff in New York, his speech will also be simulcast to all the main offices away from Headquarters: Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Beirut, Brindisi, Geneva, Nairobi, Santiago de Chile and Vienna, as well as other duty stations and missions.
