 Remembrance and Beyond
The Sixtieth General Assembly
Secretary-General Kofi Annan, in his address to the World Economic Forum, underscored that the United Nations “cannot stand still” as the world faces new challenges. The sixtieth session of the General Assembly that took place in the backdrop of the 2005 World Summit resonated a similar outlook and took groundbreaking decisions, among them, to create the Peacebuilding Commission and the Human Rights Council, and to collectively protect populations from genocide and war crimes.
