The International Day of Disabled Persons is observed on 3 December to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of disabled persons, as well as to foster changes in attitudes and eliminate barriers to their full participation in all aspects of social life.
This year's theme is “Nothing About Us Without Us”. It focuses on the active involvement of persons with disabilities in the planning of strategies and policies that affect their lives. The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 14 October 1992.
