UN Chronicle E-Alert                                                                               2002, No. 5

Last year on UN Day 2001, a little over a month after the terror strikes of 11 September, Secretary-General Kofi Annan urged “the entire United Nations family to stay true to our mission, and to work harder than ever to alleviate suffering in every part of the world. As the world confronts a new challenge, old ones remain. The United Nations is more central than ever to creating a better and safer world for all.”

UN Day is a special day for the UN family, and the UN Chronicle team extends to its colleagues in the UN system its greetings and best wishes. Here are some of the articles published in the Chronicle on what the world expects, and needs, of the United Nations.
