UN Chronicle E-Alert                                                                               2002, No. 4

The UN has released a major study on the vital role of disarmament education in promoting peace and has urged action from global leaders. In the report, a Group of Governmental Experts appointed by Secretary-General Kofi Annan highlighted the urgent need for education in the areas of disarmament and non-proliferation, especially with regard to weapons of mass destruction, but also in the field of small arms and international terrorism.

The UN Chronicle has, over the years, published various features related to disarmament—reporting on various disarmament efforts as well as highlighting the crucial role the United Nations plays in confidence-building initiatives in an increasingly globalized world. This edition of the UN Chronicle E-mail Alert presents some of these contributions.
