Several Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images of central Africa were acquired by RADARSAT, Canada's first earth observation satellite, under conditions of darkness, overcast skies, and rain during November 1996.
Significant changes associated with the displacement of refugees and relief asistance impediments have been noted in the RADARSAT images containing the airfield at Goma, Zaire.
