WHAT YOU CAN DO

If you are not near any of the events that are being planned there are many other things you can do to celebrate Peace Day. Here are some suggestions put forth by our friends at Peace One Day:

| | Have a picnic for peace in your garden or local park |
| | Make peace with someone you have fallen out with |
| | Bring your family and friends together for a meal |
| | Join a peace parade or organise one of your own in your local area |
| | Organise a street party or special event for the Day |
| | Plant a tree on the Day |
| | Send a peace card/email |
| | Hold 1-minute silence |
| | Share a meal with someone less fortunate |
| | Form a committee, within your educational establishment, for theorganisation of the Day |
| | Create a play to be performed on the Day |
| | Request a school conflict resolution program |
| | Use the Day as an opportunity for peace prayer or meditation |
| | Have office party/office lunch |
| | Organise a workshop about peace on the Day |
Raising Awareness

| | Write to your Prime Minister or President asking the governmentto observe the Day |
| | Include the Day in your organisation’s newsletter |
| | Create a link from your website to www.peaceoneday.org |
| | Schools - schedule a special assembly asking people to get involved on the Day |
| | Email everybody on your mailing list and tell them about the Day |
| | Put up posters drawing people’s attention to the Day |
| | Put the Day in your calendar for 2002 onwards |
| | Make a banner or a badge showing your support for the Day. Display it in your front window or in your car. |
