Conclusion Community Service Activity

Share this quotation with the class:

"I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve."

-Albert Schweitzer

Encourage the students to keep participating in community service activities. Some activity ideas could include: serving dinner at a soup kitchen, volunteering at a homeless shelter, tutoring younger children, or donating food, clothing or personal items. There are many other activities in your community. Ask the class to brainstorm some of the activities that they can do for their school or community.

Have the class think of as many reasons as they can why these short-term solutions are not good long-term strategies. Have the students come up with 3-4 long term solutions to an economic crisis. Remind the students of all the things they have up until now studied about poverty that will help them think of good long-term solutions (food, education, health, housing).
