Stephen Biko lived and died organizing opposition to the oppression of the white Apartheid regime. His story illustrates the importance of the right to organize and also shows the dangers of unbridled state power, when a government feels it can torture and kills its citizens. The two activities in this section address both the power of the right to peaceful assembly and association and the use of torture by the state.
