| The main purpose of the United Nations is to stop countries preparing for and fighting wars, but it is not easy. The United Nations does not want countries to fight or people to suffer. In March 1995, there were 185 countries which were members of the United Nations. They have a set of rules called the Charter which everyone can understand and which makes working together easier. | |

When a country joins the United Nations it has to agree to obey the following rules:
Ask the children to study the UN rules. What do those rules mean to behaviour at school? Rewrite them as school rules. Who and what do these protect? What kinds of responsibilities go along with them? |
