This brief report was intended as an input to the Summit and to all the activities surrounding it. It sets out the most obvious, specific and universal challenges and opportunities now available for protecting the lives of the world's children in the next decade, especially in the fields of health and education. The report also looks briefly at wider issues of the debt crisis and the resumption of economic development - which are inseparable from the question of improving the lives of the world's children. The report will be useful for political leaders, press and public as well as the many thousands of organizations and individuals who are mobilizing public opinion in support of the Summit's aims.
