United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon‑taek, arrived in Tallinn on the afternoon of Friday, 15 November, from Riga.
The Secretary-General first met with Prime Minister Andrus Ansip at his offices overlooking the city and then with President Toomas Hendrik Ilves at Kadriorg Presidential Palace. The Secretary-General and the President gave a news conference after their talks and later dined together with other Estonian leaders.
On Saturday, 16 November, the Secretary-General met with Ene Ergma, President of the Estonian Parliament — Riigikogu — and then visited the Robotex Technology Exhibition and Robotics Competition at Tallinn University of Technology.
Next, the Secretary-General held talks with Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and then delivered a lecture to students at Tallinn University and answered a number of their questions. (See Press Release SG/SM/15472.)
After further talks with the Foreign Minister over lunch, the Secretary-General toured the Old Town of Tallinn before leaving for Lithuania. He arrived in Vilnius that same day after a brief transit stop in Latvia, where he was shown the Old Town of Riga, a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site.
