Secretary-General, Saddened by Death of Malawi’s President,
Welcomes Peaceful Transition
The following statement was issued on 7 April by the Spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General is saddened by the death of Bingu wa Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi. He offers his condolences to the bereaved family, the Government and the people of Malawi.
The Secretary-General welcomes the peaceful transition in Malawi. He looks forward to working with the Government under acting President Joyce Banda.
