SECRETARY-GENERAL REVIEWING SUDAN’S REQUEST TO WITHDRAW SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE

The following statement was issued yesterday, 22 October, by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:

The Secretary-General received this morning a letter from the Government of Sudan requesting him to withdraw his Special Representative, Jan Pronk, from the Republic of the Sudan.

The Secretary-General is reviewing the letter and has, in the meantime, requested Mr. Pronk to come to New York for consultations.
