SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO RESOLUTION 1267 (1999)

CONCERNING AFGHANISTAN REMOVES ARIANA AFGHAN AIRLINES FROM ITS LIST

The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Afghanistan has removed Ariana Afghan Airlines and its accounts from its consolidated list.  The list designates individuals and entities whose funds and other financial resources should be frozen.

The Committee’s decision is based on Security Council resolution 1388 (2002) of 15 January 2002, by which the Council decided that the provisions of paragraph

4 (a) and (b) of resolution 1267 (1999) do not apply to Ariana Afghan Airlines aircraft or Ariana Afghan Airlines funds and other financial resources.  By resolution 1388 (2002), the Council also terminated the measures specified in paragraph 8 (b) of its resolution 1333 (2000) concerning the closure of all Ariana Afghan Airlines offices abroad.

An up-to-date list of individuals and entities targeted by sanctions pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1333 (2000) is accessible at: http://www.un.org/Docs/sc/committees/Afghanistan/Afg_list_eng.htm.
