
Members of the Council, which is the governing body of the University, are appointed for a period of four years. They may be reappointed. The Council is constituted with the aim of achieving a broad academic, geographical and cultural balance.
The 10 appointed members are the following:
-- Professor Yuri Afansiev of the Russian Federation, Rector, Russian State University for the Humanities, UNESCO Chair of the Culture of Peace and Democracy, Moscow;
-- Ambassador Hisashi Owada of Japan, Adviser, World Bank;
-- Dr. Attia Innayatulla of Pakistan, President, International Planned Parenthood Federation;
-- Svere Lodgaard of Norway, Director, Norwegian Institute for International Relations, Director, Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO), member of Pugwash Council;
-- Steven Rockefeller of the United States, Professor, Middlebury College, Chairman of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund;
-- Elikia M'Bokolo of the Congo, Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), Congo; Professor, Paris Research Institute on International Relations;
-- Anaisabel Perera Flores of Guatemala, former Minister of Culture of Guatemala, Special Adviser of the Director-General of UNESCO, member Club of Rome;
