Mr. Gervais, who has been serving as his country's Permanent Representative since 1992, was a Vice-President of the Council in 1995.
Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Gervais served as his country's ambassador to Angola for 10 years, from June 1982 to September 1992. From 1975 to 1982, Mr. Gervais was the Permanent Representative of Côte d'Ivoire and of the African and Malagasy Coffee Organization to the International Coffee and Cocoa Organizations in London.
Mr. Gervais, who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1962, has served as Counsellor at the Embassy of Côte d'Ivoire in Tokyo. He also served in his country's embassies in Belgium, United Kingdom, Sweden and Denmark.
At his country's Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Gervais has held the position of Deputy Director for International Organizations and Deputy Director for International Cooperation.
Mr. Gervais studied at the Overseas Institute for Advanced Studies in Paris and the Institute for Political Studies, also in Paris.
Born on 7 October 1938 in Sassandra, Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Gervais is married and has four children.
