SECRETARY-GENERAL ENCOURAGED BY PROGRESS ON LOCKERBIE ISSUE

The following statement was issued by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan on Friday, 12 February:

The Secretary-General is greatly encouraged by the important progress towards resolving the Lockerbie issue reported to him as a result of the efforts by Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

He is now looking forward to the speedy conclusion of this matter.
