Regional Commissions and the follow-up to the Social Summit

    Although ECE does not have a mandate for action in the social sector it has held two related workshops:  the first one addressed the social consequences of structural change in countries with economies in transition, and the second, on poverty among ageing, organized within the framework of the International Year for the Eradication of Poverty. In addition, the Government of Austria hosted an international expert meeting on innovative employment initiatives in the ECE region in February 1998, as follow-up activity to the Summit.
