Important message for 2011 self-employment tax
The U.S. government has passed a bill in 2010 to be effective in 2011 to reduce the Self-employment tax by two percentage points .
For staff members, effective in 2011, the rate of social security portion of the self-employment tax will be reduced from 6.2 % to 4.2%. The maximum wages and earnings subjected to social security tax remains at $106,800. The rate of the Medicare portion of the self-employment tax remains at 1.45% and there is no limitation on the wages and earnings subjected to Medicare tax.
