Update for the period 25 to 31 March

During the period 25 to 31 March Iraq exported 6.5 million barrels of oil for an
estimated revenue of $155.5 million dollars. This brings the total volume exported in
Phase VII to 188.3 million barrels for revenue of around $4.621 billion.
The 661 committee approved one additional contract for the export of oil, bringing
the total number of oil sale contracts approved under phase VII to 99. The contract is
with a Vietnamese company for 1.2 million barrels of Kirkuk for the Far East. The approved
volume of oil contracts is 294.35 million barrels (172.2m Basrah Light and 122.15m
Kirkuk).
Since the accelerated procedures for the approval of contracts for humanitarian
supplies for Iraq came into force on 1 March 2000, the Office of the Iraq Programme has
notified the 661 Committee of 172 applications, worth $552.3 million. These are items on
the lists approved by the Committee in the food, health, education and agriculture
sectors.
Over the past week the Office of the Iraq Programme received 13 contracts which
included possible dual-use items affected by the provisions of resolution 1051 (1996). The
cumulative total of applications under this category (phases IV to VII) is 65.
On the humanitarian side, the Security Councils 661 sanctions Committee has
approved $5.38 billion dollars worth of contracts in Phases IV to VII and put $1.33
billion on hold for the same period.
In Phases IV to VII, OIP has received contracts worth $1.27 billion for the supply
of oil industry spare parts and equipment. Of these, the 661 Committee has approved
contracts worth $ 689.2 million and put contracts worth $335.7 million on hold.
Humanitarian supplies and equipment for the oil industry continue to arrive
normally through the three land border points and the Iraqi port of Umm Qasr. Arrivals
included: 98,615 tonnes of wheat, 15,689 tonnes of cooking oil, some 30,000 tonnes of
sugar, plus a range of medicines and pharmaceutical products. Other arrivals included
tyres and tubes, bulldozers with spare parts, water equipment and high protein biscuits.
