Oil-for-Food Background Information

During the week to 11 February, Iraq exported a total of 15 million barrels of crude oil, in twelve loadings, for estimated revenue of $383 million dollars. Since oil exports under phase VII began there have been 103.9 million barrels exported for estimated revenue of $2500 million.

In phase VII, the Security Council Committee has approved a total of 95 contracts for the sale of Iraqi oil with a total volume of 266.8 million barrels (158 m Basrah Light, 108.8 m Kirkuk).

The Office of the Iraq Programme has now received 1669 contracts for humanitarian supplies worth $3.38 billion under phase VI. Of the 1231 contracts circulated to the Security Council Committee, 825 worth $1.52 billion have been approved. So far $1.57 billion worth of contracts for humanitarian supplies have been approved under phase IV and $1.6 billion under phase V.

In phases IV, V and VI, there are a total of 560 contracts for humanitarian supplies on hold. These include 20 contracts worth $34.1 million dollars in phase IV, 168 contracts worth $515.6 million in phase V and 372 contracts worth $787 million in phase VI.

In Phases IV to VI, OIP has received 2140 contracts worth $1.21 billion for the supply of oil industry spare parts and equipment. Of these contracts, the 661 Committee has approved 1049 worth $ 530.6 million and put 542 worth $293.5 million on hold.

The Office of the Iraq Programme has received the first oil spare parts contract under Phase VII. The contract was submitted by United Arab Emirates for test and measuring apparatus with spare parts and is worth $107.1 thousand.

Supplies purchased under the programme continue to arrive normally. Arrivals over the past week included: medicines, high protein biscuits, class room furniture, agricultural tractors, tomato seeds and oil spares. In addition, 48,247 tones of wheat, 2,555 tones of detergent and 4,373 tones of cooking oil arrived in the country last week.
