How you proceed to collect depends on your source. In the planning session,
we noted that there were six types of methods. You will have specified some
of them. Each of the methods involves a specific type of collection issue.
For records data, the issue has to do with setting up a system to capture or
extract data that are entered into the registry. For documents, it consists
of designing a classification system or codebook. For direct observation, it
involves designing a field guide to ensure that observations are made and
recorded systematically. For interviews, it involves designing a
questionnaire (and this applies as well to surveys). For focus groups it
involves designing a protocol for conducting the focus groups. Finally, for
surveys (assuming the questionnaires have been designed), it involves
designing the sample to be used.
While you are welcome to browse all of the methods, you can also focus on
those methods that you intend to use in your self-evaluation. Each link will
take you to a segment dealing with the issues. When you finish each, you can
return to this menu and look at other methods.
When you have completed your review, you can then move on the the analysis
segment.
