Guidelines for Implementing the Agenda for Action on Social Development in the ESCAP Region

A Regional Workshop on Guidelines for the Implementation of the Agenda for action on Social Development in the ESCAP Region was held in March 1996 at Bangkok. The workshop was attended by 20 participants and resource persons from both the government and non-governmental sectors of nine countries in the Asian-Pacific region, representatives from 16 intergovernmental bodies and organizations within and outside of the United Nations system, and three international NGOs. A set of guidelines was adopted as a framework for the systematic formulation of coherent national actions for social development in accordance with the Agenda's vital concerns, goals and targets.

Building on the Workshop's deliberations and recommendations, this publication presents a comprehensive set of guidelines to strengthen the initiatives of planners and programme managers involved in the implementation of the regional Social Development Agenda in various sectors. The Publication complements the companion volume, Policy and Programme Perspective in Implementing the Agenda for action on Social Development in the ESCAP Region (ST/ESCAP/1714)
