The use of "standards" and "best practices" for trade facilitation is a key prerequisite for trade efficiency and precursor to further migration to electronic commerce. It would greatly enhance national capability on the use of EDI and electronic commerce to facilitate trade.

ESCAP has developed TraDES^TM, Trade Documentation Software, as part of "ECIE - Electronic Commerce Initiatives of ESCAP." It incorporates most of the ‘standards’ and ‘best practices’ being promoted by the United Nations and other international organizations to facilitate trade, such as UN layout key, referencing system, codes, and application of electronic commerce capabilities such fax and Internet.

TraDES^TM will assist trade practitioners in both public and private sectors, especially SMEs, to produce and exchange trade documents more speedily with less paper works and errors, cutting down on time and costs in trade transaction.
