ESCAP's Regional Adviser on Water Resources, David Jezeph, provides technical assistance to member countries in developing policy and plans at the national level, particularly in integrated water resources development and management towards the implementation of Agenda 21 and the Mar del Plata Action Plan. Recent missions include:

  • Lectures and advice on catchment management and soil erosion control, Watershed Management Directorate, Ministry of Construction Jehad, Islamic Republic of Iran (6-18 August 1997)
  • Advice on integrated river basin planning and computer modelling of the Upper Mekong River (Lancang), Nanjing Institute of Hydrology and Water Resources, China (21-30 September 1997)
  • Advice on the Introduction of the Polluter Pays Principle, Ministry of Nature and the Environment, Mongolia (12-23 October 1997)
  • Preparation of the Terms of Reference for a study and advice on National Water Policy and Water Rights, Pakistan (17-24 November 1997)

The 19th Special Session of the UN General Assembly, held in January 1997, called for action to meet high priority issues related to freshwater resources. In accordance with this mandate, short-term technical assistance missions can be provided on request at no cost to the governments in the ESCAP region.
