Mineral Resource Assessment

- The Mineral Resources Section assists developing ESCAP Members in the assessment of their mineral potential, and more importantly, in publicizing this potential, to promote domestic and foreign direct investment in the mineral sector of these countries, in the context of sustainable development.
MRS also provides training, and conducts studies in exploration and evaluation techniques for selected mineral commodities, such as fertilizer minerals, tin, tungsten, mineral sands, industrial minerals, construction materials, gemstones, epithermal gold, base metals, etc.
- In addition, studies are conducted on the mineral potential, sustainable mineral supply and mineral development policy in selected groups of countries such as: Asian LDC's (least developed countries), North-East Asia, the Central Asian Republics of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), etc...
In support of these efforts, MRS produces a number of relevant publications:

Atlas of Mineral Resources of the ESCAP Region, a series which so far includes volumes on Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nepal, Republic of Korea, Sri Lanka, Solomon Islands, and Viet Nam
.

Mineral Concentrations and Hydrocarbon Accumulations in the ESCAP Region, including volumes on fertilizer minerals, tin deposits, mineral sands, industrial minerals, epithermal gold and kuroko-type base metal mineralization
