Welcome to the Decade Home Page

People with disabilities are on the move. Labelled disabled, they are fighting against being treated as sick and in need of charity. The struggle is on for recognition of their citizenship entitlements.

By declaring the period 1993 - 2002 as the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, all Governments of the Asian and Pacific region have committed themselves to the full participation and equality of people with disabilities.

Decade action focuses on the inclusion of people with disabilities in society and all mainstream development programmes.
