STATEMENT ON ERRONEOUS MEDIA REPORTS

The United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE) would like to state that the delay in the announcement of the decision by the Boundary Commission was not caused by the Mission as was reported by the media on the weekend of the 16 and 17 February 2002. The Boundary Commission, which meets in The Hague in the Netherlands, is independent and not answerable to the Mission or the United Nations. The Mission would therefore like corrections to be made to these erroneous reports. Any query regarding the work of the Boundary Commission should be referred to the Commission in The Hague.
