United Nations Police in Peace operations:Interim law enforcementUnited Nations police officers are directly responsible for all law enforcement functions and have a clear authority and responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. They are inter alia entrusted with powers of arrest, detention and searches. These responsibilities have historically been given as part of United Nations transitional administrations (i.e. Kosovo and East Timor).
