UN Police Division

“In the past United Nations Police prioritized monitoring, observing and reporting activities as its core approaches to foster host-state democratic and impartial policing. Today the United Nations Police strive to provide a combination of reform, restructuring and rebuilding activities to be undertaken in a wider rule of law or good governance framework."

Andrew Carpenter, Chief of Strategic Policy and Development Section
UN Police Division

Strategic Planning and Development

Strategies and policies are developed by the Police Division so as to provide guidance and direction to the police components of peace operations in order to facilitate the implementation of their respective mandates. Primary focus is placed on key tasks performed by the Police components of Peace Operations, such as the provision of interim policy and law enforcement, security support to host-state policing services and support for reform, restructuring and rebuilding of law enforcement agencies.
