UNFICYP peacekeepers assist with the removal of a tractor, at the request of its owner, from the UN-patrolled buffer zone in the Kaimakli area where the tractor was hit by an anti-tank landmine in 1979 and since abandoned. In 2005, the Mine Action Centre Cyprus (MAC) completed minefield clearance of the area with assistance from UNFICYP. For the first time in 27 years a crop of barley was harvested in June 2006. The on-going de-mining project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the umbrella of the Partnership for the Future (PFF) programme, Nicosia, Cyprus, 14 July 2006.
