Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

The International Day of Solidarity with the
Palestinian People was observed on 29 November. Special meetings in
observance of the Solidarity Day were held at United Nations Headquarters in
New York, as well as at the United Nations Offices at Geneva and Vienna.

International Conference of Civil Society in Support of Israeli-Palestinian
Peace
Brussels, 30 and 31 August 2007
The United Nations International Conference of
Civil Society in Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace was held on 30 and 31
August 2007 on the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels, under the
auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the
Palestinian People. The theme of the Conference was “Civil society and
parliamentarians working together for peace in the Middle East”. At the end of
the Conference, participating civil society representatives agreed on a
document entitled a “Call to Action” prepared by the International Coordinating
Network on Palestine.

:: Special meeting
to mark 40 years of occupation by Israel of the Palestinian Territory,
including East Jerusalem
UN Headquarters, New York, 7 June 2007
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable
Rights of the Palestinian People convened a Special meeting to mark 40 years of
occupation by Israel of the Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, at
the United Nations Headquarters in New York on 7 June 2007. The Meeting drew
the attention of the international community to the fact that for the past four
decades the Palestinian people has been living under the harsh conditions of
military occupation, unable to control its own destiny and exercise its
inalienable national rights. Invited to the Meeting were all United Nations
Members and Observers, intergovernmental organizations, United Nations system
entities, and representatives of civil society. Also, noting the invaluable
work done by civil society organizations in support of the Palestinian people,
a number of representatives of civil society organizations were invited to
participate in the Meeting and address the various aspects of the issue.

African Meeting on the Question of Palestine
Pretoria, South
Africa, 9 and 10 May 2007
This Meeting was held under
the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the
Palestinian People. It discussed the situation in the Occupied Palestinian
Territory, including East Jerusalem; international efforts aimed at achieving
sustainable Israeli-Palestinian peace; and African solidarity with the
Palestinian people’s aspirations for independence and statehood.

Nations Public Forum in Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace

This Public Forum was held
under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights
of the Palestinian People. It looked into civil society solidarity with the
Palestinian people, in particular the relationship between African civil
society and international efforts to support a peaceful solution of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

:: United Nations International Meeting in
Support of Israeli-Palestinian Peace
FAO Headquarters, Rome, 22-23 March 2007

On 22 and 23 March 2007, the
Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People
convened the United Nations International Meeting in Support of
Israeli-Palestinian Peace. "Re-launching the Israeli-Palestinian peace process
- Challenges and vision" was chosen as the theme of the event. The Meeting
focused on the significance of peace in the Middle East for the advancement of
the dialogue between cultures and civilizations; the engagement of parliaments
in promoting dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians; and the role of
international actors in restoring momentum to the Israeli-Palestinian peace
process. It was attended by prominent international experts, including Israeli
and Palestinian, representatives of United Nations Members and Observers,
parliamentarians, representatives of the United Nations system, other
intergovernmental and civil society organizations and the media. The meeting
adopted a
Final Document.

:: United Nations Seminar on Assistance to the
Palestinian People
Doha, 5 and 6 February 2007
   The Seminar, organized under the auspices of the Committee on the Exercise of
the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, provided participants
with an opportunity to assess the scope of the socio-economic and humanitarian
emergency in the Occupied Palestinian Territory; discuss the United Nations,
international and regional response to the needs of the Palestinian people; and
exchange views on the actions that need to be taken on the road to Palestinian
economic recovery. Invited to the Seminar were representatives of donor
countries and United Nations system entities involved in projects of assistance
to the Palestinian people, as well as internationally renowned experts,
including Palestinians and Israelis. Also invited were all Member States and
representatives of intergovernmental organizations. Civil society organizations
were invited to attend the Seminar as observers.
